A surreal scene at a Mexican hotel: a spider monkey walks past a waterfall, scurries along the lounge chairs, and jumps straight onto the front desk to snatch some pastries. The staff watches without intervening. An accomplice is waiting for it outside. Geoffroy’s spider monkeys, native to southern Mexico and Central America, are known for their agility and their prehensile tail—apparently just as useful in the forest as at a hotel front desk.
