Colombia: Targeted UNP agent fights back and neutralizes his attacker

Surveillance cameras in the Los Almendros neighborhood, north of Cali, Colombia, filmed the scene in early March 2026: a young Venezuelan man in his twenties attacked an agent from the Unidad Nacional de Protección (UNP) as he was getting into his vehicle. The agent, a trained professional, responded immediately and shot his attacker. UNP Director Augusto Rodríguez described it as a foiled assassination attempt. Authorities are trying to determine whether it was a opportunistic robbery or a planned hit.
