Some 16,000 people gathered in Amsterdam's Dam Square for the national commemoration of the dead. All went calmly until the end of the two-minute silence and the Wilhelmus, the national anthem. At this point, a few individuals shouted "Free Palestine" and waved Palestinian flags. Two of them were arrested by the police, provoking a tense reaction in the crowd. In all, six arrests were made, on various charges including disorderly conduct, drunkenness and lack of papers.
