Russia launched an intercontinental ballistic missile (ICBM) over Ukraine on Thursday, between 5 and 7 a.m., according to the Ukrainian army. The missile, fired from the Astrakhan region, traveled some 800 km to reach its target, marking an unprecedented use of this conventionally-loaded weapon, formerly designed for nuclear deterrence. Although the damage was limited, the act sends out a symbolically powerful message. Moscow, for its part, refuses to comment on the accusations, while experts are questioning the exact model used, citing the possible emergence of an Rs-26 Rubezh missile from "retirement".
