In the event of a car crash, sensors detect the impact and trigger a signal to a gas generator. In a fraction of a second, the latter produces a large quantity of nitrogen gas to inflate the airbag, creating a protective barrier between passengers and hard surfaces. The result: lives saved and teeth preserved. But there's a catch: some people have fun activating an airbag out of context, in dangerous "experiments". A word of advice? Before attempting this kind of madness, tie your shoelaces: you'll avoid ending up barefoot in the emergency room.
