Welsh HGV driver jailed after fogged windscreen causes pile-up

Last October, on the B5129 at Flintshire in Wales, British driver Christopher Tribe, 36, caused a five-vehicle accident. He was driving with a heavily fogged windscreen that severely limited his visibility, despite the low sun. Dashcam images show him slamming into the rear of a white minibus stuck in a traffic jam, without braking. The impact set off a chain reaction. Two people were injured, the minibus driver and a passenger. The load of glue being transported by Tribe spilled onto the carriageway, forcing the hard shoulder to be closed for cleaning. In Mold Magistrates' Court, he pleaded guilty to dangerous driving and admitted looking at his phone shortly beforehand. He received a 36-week prison sentence, suspended for 18 months, an 18-month driving ban, an obligation to retake an extended driving test, and around 310 euros in fines and costs.
