In China, an enormous 758-metre bridge collapsed just a few months after its opening. The Hongqi Bridge, located in Sichuan province, had been completed at the beginning of the year. According to local authorities, the cause was a landslide that occurred shortly before the collapse. Police had closed down traffic just before the collapse, thus avoiding any casualties. The Chinese media confirmed thatno injuries were reported, but images of the broken bridge are circulating widely online.
