In Madrid, two activists from the Futuro Vegetal group covered a painting of Christopher Columbus on display at the Naval Museum with red paint. The work, painted in 1892 by José Garnelo, represents a tribute to Columbus. Activists threw the paint over the protective glass and border, holding up signs reading "12 de octubre, nada que celebrar". According to them, the color symbolizes the blood shed by colonialism and the destruction of nature. The painting was not damaged, and the two perpetrators were arrested.
