Tourists evacuate Sardinia after massive beach fire

On the beach at Punta Molentis, Sardinia, holidaymakers were soaking up the sun when a fire broke out behind the dunes. The fire spread very quickly, blocking any exit by land. Smoke filled the area, and panic ensued. Over 100 people, including 12 children, had to be evacuated by boat. Emergency services mobilized fireboats, rescue services and even private boats. The origin of the fire is still unclear, but a misplaced cigarette or barbecue is suspected.
