Before the match between Derry City and the Bohemians, masked rival groups clashed with sticks, metal bars and fireworks near Brandywell Stadium. Two people were injured and taken to hospital. During the match, firecrackers were thrown onto the pitch, causing a stoppage. Families with children fled the stands in a hurry. Police suspected an organized attack. Politicians denounced the unacceptable behavior and called for sanctions. The match ended 1-1, but the atmosphere was far from being one of soccer.
