A motorist under the influence of cannabis hits and sends a cyclist flying through the air

Clive Williams, a driver who had been using cannabis the day before, crashed into cyclist Les Norris in Hawkinge, causing serious injuries. Norris was thrown into the air, suffering a fractured pelvis, ribs and wrist, requiring emergency surgery. The court heard that Williams avoided hitting a car by braking hard, which led him to climb onto the sidewalk. Despite permanent physical after-effects for Norris, Williams avoided prison, with a 24-week sentence suspended for 18 months, 200 hours of community service and a driving ban.
