Young man attacks staff and pupils with shards of glass at school (Warning - shocking)

A 17-year-old teenager, Louis Melotte, wreaked havoc at Sheffield's Birley Academy on May 1. Armed with shards of glass, he attacked a 12-year-old pupil in the school foyer without warning, before targeting a school care worker and receptionist who tried to protect her. Despite injuries, they managed to subdue the attacker until the police arrived. As a result of his dangerous behavior, Melotte was sentenced to 5 years' detention in a youth center, with a five-year follow-up period. For their part, the interveners were congratulated by the judge for their courage and nominated for bravery awards.
