In Brazil, José de Melo, 29, tragically lost his life when he fell from a jet ski on Lake Jaçanaú, in Maracanú, Ceará. Not knowing how to swim and having consumed alcohol, de Melo was a passenger behind his friend Evanebio Barros, 35, who was performing acrobatics. They fell into the water without life jackets. Barros tried to save de Melo, but had to go to shore, fearing for his own life. De Melo's body was recovered by the emergency services. Barros, without a license to drive the jet ski, was questioned by the authorities.
