An animal rights group has released a video showing animal cruelty within Finnish fur farms, where obese and infected foxes are trapped in small, wire mesh cages. Finland is the leading producer of certified fox fur in Europe, and second in the world after China. The footage has sparked controversy and calls to outlaw the fur industry in Finland. In December 2021, a European Citizens Initiative calling for an EU-wide ban on the fur industry reached one million signatures, the number required to trigger a response from the Commission. The Finnish Fur Breeders' Association FIFUR condemned the filming as illegal trespassing and stated that the footage does not represent reality.
